When to Embrace Self-Therapism and Empower Your Inner Healer

In communities of color and the global majority, therapy can sometimes feel inaccessible or carry a stigma. That’s why we’re passionate about advocating for "Self-therapism"—the empowering practice of becoming your own healer.

Therapy provides us with incredible tools for working through our deepest challenges. Yet, there comes a point in life when we are ready to shift from seeking answers outside of ourselves to turning inward and trusting our own wisdom. The process of "Self-therapism" encourages this empowerment, teaching us that we are capable of becoming our own guide, making intentional decisions for our mental health, and reframing our thoughts with the same compassion we seek from others.

The idea behind "Self-therapism" is simple: you don’t always need a therapist to work through life’s challenges. While traditional therapy is crucial in moments of crisis, self-therapy helps you tap into your inner strength during times of growth, transition, or everyday stress. Journaling, reflection, and mindfulness are powerful tools that allow you to explore your own emotions, unpack limiting beliefs, and start creating solutions for yourself.

This week, take a step toward self-therapy by reflecting on one recurring challenge in your life. Spend time journaling about it—without judgment—exploring where the challenge stems from and how you’ve approached it in the past. Ask yourself, “What wisdom can I offer myself right now?” By listening to your inner voice, you begin to trust your capacity to heal.
